Natural Gas Experience In New York State

  • Since the 1950’s, most of the natural gas wells in New York State have been hydrofraced.

  • The chemicals used for hydrofracing have evolved and improved over time and continue to do so.

  • The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation requires each company to disclose their formula for chemicals used in hydrofracing.

  • Many natural gas companies publically release  their formula for chemicals used in hydrofracing.

  • Most hydrofracing only uses about a half dozen chemicals in the process.

  • Hydrofracting solutions are composed of 99.5% water and sand and 0.5% chemicals.

  • Hydrofracing of natural gas wells occurs daily in New York State.

  • Vertical wells use up to 80,000 gallons of hydrofracing solution.
